PROTECTIVE WEAR Q&A

What is Maaji's 1World2gether Protective Wear Collection?

COVID-19 is impacting all of us, and at Maaji, we want to do what we can to help. In March, with an extreme shortage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the Colombian hospitals, the government asked local businesses to help in any possible way. We immediately switched the Maaji production line to help fill the gap.

We’ve created a sustainable way to help not just now but through the duration of this pandemic and beyond. In addition to non-medical masks (e.g., face coverings) we are producing a protective wear line to help keep our customers safe and secure. For each item purchased, we are donating a mask to hospitals and those essential workers on the front lines who are putting their lives at risk to keep us safe.

By providing the opportunity to purchase, as well as donating masks/coverings to those in need, we hope to alleviate the demand on medical-grade masks, ensuring those masks are available for healthcare workers whose lives depend on them.

How was the process of research, conceptualization, creation, design, and shift in production for this new line?

In March, with the scarcity and high demand for face masks in Colombia and around the world, Maaji looked for a way to help alleviate the high need for masks/coverings. Carolina Restrepo, the Director of Innovation, Sustainability, and Development was asked to research and define a process for the design and production of face masks/coverings.

Within days the Maaji production line was changed to support the production of non-medical masks producing 10,000 non-medical masks donated to Colombian hospitals in Medellin. Recognizing there is a need for more than just face coverings, Maaji designers combined their design experience with the Maaji pattern makers, engineers and manufacturing team to create an entirely innovative and revolutionary line.
